Analyzing the relationship between occupational ethic and teachers' job engagement: the mediating role of career path adaptability

Abstract

Objective: The purpose of the present study was to investigate the relationship between occupational ethic and job engagement with the mediating role of career path adaptability among primary school teachers in Rasht.

Methods: The method of this study was descriptive-correlational. The population of the research includes all the primary school teachers of Rasht department of education in the number of 282 people who were selected as a population by stratified random method and based on Cochran's formula. To collect data, three questionnaires were used - occupational ethic, career path adaptability and job engagement. Data were analyzed using structural equation modeling.

Results: The results showed that the direct effect of occupational ethic on job engagement with a beta of 0.41 and it is significant on job adaptability with a beta of 0.30, and job adaptability has a direct effect on job engagement with a beta of 0.26. The mediating role of job adaptability in the relationship between occupational ethic and job engagement of employees was also significant with a beta of 0.07.

Conclusion: The findings showed that there is a relationship between occupational ethic and job engagement in schools with the mediating variable of career path adaptability, and therefore it can be said that the role of job adaptability is particularly important in promoting teachers' job engagement.
